ODFTrans

Since April 2008 there are two ISO certified document standards, the ODF-Format and  Office Open XML.

Having two competing standards is a worst case scenario, because documents need to be transformed from one standard to the other. Two standards are as good as having no standard, it is inefficient and expensive. Conversion always results in less quality.

Especially public sector authorities need tools to handle both standards, because they can hardly decide to support only one standard. There is a need for tools, that efficiently manage the interoperability gap.

Current available converters are implemented as builtin import/export functions in the office suites  or conversion functionality is added by installing plugins or addins. An installation on the client pc is required. Depending on format or content, these converters produce output, which can extremly differ in fidelity.

ODFTrans gives you an elegant solution, an easy to use interface to make use of more than one converter without the need to install it on a client pc. And the best of all:

ODFTrans is free

HWD developed ODFTrans as a central service to convert proprietary office files into the open document format (ODF) and vice versa.

ODFTRANS is based on eMail2PDF, HWD´s well-known, email-based PDF conversion. Clients send their documents to ODFTrans by email and ODFTrans swiftly replies with the converted document(s) attached: easy to understand and efficient to use.

In its current version 0.7.2, ODFTrans is no longer limited to the conversion of documents, but supports the conversion of spreadsheets and presentations as well.
RTF has been added to the list of supported file types.

Who benefits from ODFTrans?

ODFTrans can be interesting for all CIOs, administrators and others, resonsible for IT, who
- are looking for an easy-to-use conversion software
- can´t or don´t want to install the conversion software on each client pc
- give Linux-Users the possibility to make use of MS-Office based converters
- minimize support for conversion tasks

Authorities, organisations and companies can request further information by eMail oder telephone.
